Ghent
A glorious past, a vibrant present
"Beautiful and prodigious city!" exclaimed the German artist Dürer when he stopped in Ghent in 1551.
Indeed, in the 16th century, it was the most powerful city after Paris. Having managed to overcome the cloth crisis of the 14th century, Ghent became by the end of the 15th century a huge grain warehouse and an active center for river transport.
The surviving evidence of Ghent's housing from this period allows us to evoke the city's vibrant commercial and social life. A certain art of living and hospitality, along with a taste for material goods, flourished. Spices, capital, and merchants, always bringing new ideas in their wake, fostered a spirit of freedom that spread throughout our prosperous lands.
We invite you to discover some facets of the Belgian character, a lover of fine food, during a stroll through the historic and gastronomic heart of the city. By delving into history, we will see the roots of a region take shape.
We will be pleased to organize the following for you:
-
A guided tour of the historic center
-
A gourmet stroll to discover the gastronomic and brewing heritage
-
Our Dine Around
-
Our cultural City Games (Who killed him? He is the Gold,...)
-
and any other activity upon request
